Search Engine Optimisation
This is a very important form of digital marketing, which can help business websites be seen by more people. Think about it – when you are looking for a service, product or item online, we always go straight to Google (or another search engine) and either type in what we are looking for directly, or ideas similar to it. We then proceed to click on the first thing which appears on the list of results. The order that the results appear is no accident. Businesses spend countless hours and lots of money to get their site to “rank” in the top position on search engines.
SEO is the way that businesses do just this. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and it describes a number of techniques which are used to help allow search engines to read your website.
SEO can be broken down into three main areas:
Onsite SEO: this is things like title tags, heading tags and descriptions which are built into the code of your site. These are read by search engines to allow your site to be put into categories on search results.
Link Building: Links online almost act like votes for your site. If you get lots of links from other websites all pointing to your own site, Google sees this is a good thing and it knows your site is a good source of information about your topic.
Content marketing: content is the most important part of your site. The content is all the text which features on your site, which people (customers) read to see what you are all about. Google can also read this text and it will look out for keywords which describe your products or services. This is how it knows what your pages are about.
